NO MORE FALL GAMES
Staten Island youth league cancels season
The Staten Island Youth Soccer League has canceled the final weeks of its fall season due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
The SIYSL is accepting donations online to help people still suffering on Staten Island. People can donate at http://siysl.vicid.net/index.php
The SIYSL executive board had released this statement:
"We feel that with all that has recently occurred, our focus should be on caring for our families and community. As such, the executive board has decided to suspend the remaining games for the Fall Season. We hope to expand opportunities during the Spring Season for additional games. While we have all been impacted by Hurricane Sandy, in some way, we felt that this decision helps ensure that members of our league are able to focus on more pressing items that require a heightened sense of urgency and individual commitment."
Added SIYSL president Bill Smith: “We’re trying to do what is right for the kids."
The Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League postponed games during the past two weekends and will finalize Hurricane Sandy relief efforts at its next board of directors meeting on Nov. 21.
“Our clubs have started organizing Hurricane Sandy relief efforts and at our next Board meeting, we will be finalizing league-wide relief efforts,” CJSL president Burt Wilkes said.
