Met Oval to hold them Jan. 26, Feb. 2

The Met Oval will hold Pre-Academy tryouts at the Met Oval on Saturdays Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. each day.

The tryouts are in preparation for the club's launch of its U.S. Soccer Academy this fall.

The tryouts are intended for travel team players and athletes with playing experience who were born 1999 through 2000.

The Northeast Pre-Academy League, with Under-12 through U-13 boys divisions, is geared towards preparing teams for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy at the U-14 and U-18 age groups.

U-13 coach Tom Giovatto will be in charge of the tryout session and with the assistance of Roitman a selection of players will be made.

Giovatto is coach of the St. Francis College men's team

Roitman, the technical director, has distinguished himself at virtually every level of soccer, which includes youth, college, amateur, professional and international. At the international level, Roitman was the assistant coach of the U.S. Men's National Team, helping it qualify for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea and then U.S. National Team assistant coach under coach Lothar Osiander in 1986-88. He helped start the U.S.'s run to qualifying for its first World Cup qualification (1990) in 40 years.
