LISRA to hold one in February

The Long Island Soccer Referees Association will hold a course this month to certify entry-level (Grade 8) referees in Plainedge, N.Y.

Candidates must attend all classes:

* Tuesday, Feb. 12

* Wednesday, Feb. 13

* Tuesday, Feb. 19

* Thursday, Feb. 21

* Monday, Feb. 25

* Wednesday, Feb. 27

All classes will be held at the Plainedge High School, 241 Wyngate Drive, North Massapequa, N.Y. 11758 and run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night.

Class check-in begins 15 minutes before the first class.

The fee is $115 if you are 16-17 years old and $123 if you are turning 18 in 2013. The minimum age to become a certified Grade 8 referee is 16. The class is limited to the first 50 candidates who have registered plus paid and will close one week before the start of the first class.

If you send a check, it must arrive seven days after you register or no later than Feb. 15. The check is to be mailed to LISRA Referee Class, 701-9 Koehler Avenue, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779.

All candidates will need to pass a US Soccer rules test the last night of the class before becoming certified to referee soccer games.
