ENYYSA Girls 1997 team to compete for national title
The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association's Girls 1997 ODP South Team will compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Championships on March 1 and 3.
The team will play at FC Dallas Stadium Complex in Frisco, Texas. ENY qualified by winning the the Region I June in Kirkwood, Del. last une, winning all five games and outscoring its opponents 16-3.
Coached by Wayne Fortino, the team will play against the home team, North Texas, in the semifinals on Friday, March 1 at 3 p.m. The winner will play the California South-Michigan semifinal victor for the championship. That title match will be held on Sunday, March 3 at 8:30 a.m.
The ENY team is made up of players from Long Island and New York City.
“We are very proud of these girls from Eastern New York and we’re happy to be sponsoring their trip to Texas,” ENYYSA ODP chairperson Julian DiDonato said. “We wish them the best of luck as they compete in the nationals!”
College coaches will be scouting the nationals. The ODP is considered the highest level of youth soccer. Many of these players will go on to play college soccer and represent the United States internationally.
